This year marks the largest scholarship awards in Whatcom Art Guild (WAG) history! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our members and supporters, WAG raised over $3,000 in 2024, allowing us to award three scholarships to deserving students in Western Washington University’s Art Department.
WAG members had the pleasure of meeting the recipients at our September meeting, where the students shared their creative journeys and displayed their artwork at the Whatcom Art Market throughout the month of October.
Our major scholarship fundraiser for this year is the 2025 WAG Art Calendar, featuring artwork from talented guild members. Calendars are available for purchase at the Whatcom Art Market for $25, with all proceeds supporting future scholarships.
Since becoming a nonprofit organization in 1970, the Whatcom Art Guild has proudly supported emerging artists. Early scholarships were awarded to Whatcom County high school seniors pursuing art education—among the first recipients was Jody Bergsma, now a celebrated Bellingham artist. Today, the WWU Art Department Scholarship Committee annually awards one or more scholarships to full-time junior or senior studio art majors on behalf of WAG.
