The Perfect Space for an Art Class, Art Show, or Private Event

Brand new, the Whatcom Art Center is proud to share our workshop space to facilitate art classes and art shows/special events.

Here is the step-by-step guide to host your class or event in the Art Center:

  1. Review the basic information below for hours, rates, policies, etc.
  2. Review the current Calendar for the Center to see space availability
  3. Select the applicable space request type/button below (class, art show, or private event) to start the submission
  4. Fill out the associated application form, specifying your date(s) and time slots of interest
  5. Read the policies download before submitting your form, as the form constitutes your agreement to adhere to the policies.
  6. Submit your request
  7. Allow us 48 hours to respond to you by email

Basic Information

We’re excited to support instructors who want to offer classes at Whatcom Art Center!

Here’s all the information you need to get started.

Class hours & rates:

  • Available hours and time slots: 9 am – 1 pm, 1 pm – 5 pm, 5 pm – 9 pm (may select multiple slots)
  • Minimum Rental Requirement: Must book within one (or more) of the designated four-hour time slots.
  • Distinct rates for weekend (Friday-Sunday) vs. weekday (Monday-Thursday)
  • Whatcom Art Guild (WAG) members get preferred rates
  • Hourly Rates (minimum 4 hrs):
    • Weekdays: WAG – $15/hr | non-WAG – $25/hr
    • Weekends: WAG – $20/hr | non-WAG – $30/hr
  • Daily/Weekly Rates:
    •  Weekdays:
      • 1 day: WAG – $170 | non-WAG – $200
      • 2 days: WAG – $340| non-WAG – $400
      • 3 days: WAG – $470 | non-WAG – $550
    • Weekends:
      • 1 day: WAG – $190 | non-WAG – $275
      • 2 days: WAG – $425 | non-WAG – $500
      • 3 days: WAG – $500 | non-WAG – $650
  • Payment for class space – due within 5 days of approval and can be paid at Whatcom Art Market.
  • IF you would like to join WAG, please visit the WAG membership page or indicate your interest on your submission form.

Facility Details and Support

  • Class capacity: Maximum 60 people.
  • Amenities Provided: Tables, chairs, and a deep sink for cleaning.
  • Audio-Visual Equipment: We offer AV equipment – large flat screen, audio amplifier/speakers that you can connect to via HDMI, Bluetooth, etc.

Class Setup & Cleanup: Instructors are responsible for setting up, taking down, and cleaning the space after each session, including the deep sink area.

Promoting your class or public event

Marketing and promotion of your class or event is your responsibility—but we’re here to help support your efforts!

  • Each rental booking will receive a website listing to your class where students can find the necessary information.
  • We’ll help promote your class by advertising on our website and social media platforms.

To get the word out, we encourage you to:

  • Submit your event to the Bellingham Tourism Office and the Fairhaven Association to be included on their community calendars.  To do this go to bellingham.org/event-submission and post your event, and email heather@enjoyfairhaven.org.  Let them know if you are a WAG member promoting your upcoming class or event.
  • Print and distribute flyers around town and post them inside the Whatcom Art Center.  If you need help feel free to email vpmarketing@whatcomartguild.org for further information.
  • Share your event. If you have any additional details and associated graphics/images as part of your event promotion, email these to socialmedia@whatcomartguild.org. We’ll incorporate these details into our social media channel posts.
  • Tag us on your social media posts. Be sure to add @whatcomartcenter to your Instagram and Facebook posts and select us as a collaborator when possible.

Additional Requirements for Children’s Classes:

If you plan to offer classes for children, an additional form will be required for legal coverage.
