For the second WAG art challenge of 2025, we explored the Fibonacci Sequence.

What a fun two months preparing, learning about something new (for many), and coming up with truly creative examples of this elegant, mathematical sequence! A huge thanks to all of you who took on this unique challenge!

Participating artists took turns explaining their creative process and inspiration for their artwork and then voted for our favorites:

First Place

Karen McCormick’s ‘Darling Cat’ looking backwards to see a snail on a branch curled up like a Fibonacci spiral captured everyone’s heart and earned her first place. Congratulations Karen!

Second Place

Runner-up Liz Cunningham created a spectacular necklace featuring mauve and silvery beads, stones, and pearls displaying the sequence in a swish shape. The double black cords cradled shiny beads in a numbered sequence. Stunning work as ever Liz!

Third Place

Runner-up Stephanie Strong outdid herself with a gorgeous, framed silk scarf. Three golden ammonite shells spun across a sea of spiraling blue. Beautiful movement, colors, and a lovely example of finding the Fibonacci sequence in nature!

A heartfelt thank you to Dyann Castro-Wehr, Beth Roberson, June Kiefer, and John and Carrie Trax for helping with this event!
